Dr. Brian Gillis
Dr Brian Gillis is a board certified specialist; certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Proctology, and the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association and the American Osteopathic College of Proctology, where he served as past president form 2007 to 2008. Dr. Gillis received his Medical Degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1995, and completed his internship at St Vincent Hospital in Worcester Massachusetts, and completed his residency at Grandview Hospital, in Dayton Ohio.
Dr Gillis is a renowned expert in anal-rectal pathology and physiology, with a subspecialty in defecatory disorders. Dr Gillis is licensed by the State of Maine as an Osteopathic Physician and Surgeon. He practices at Maine General Hospital in Augusta Maine, and at Inland Hospital in Waterville Maine, where he served as Vice Chief of Staff for many years. He was a member of the Board of Trustees until it's closure in June 2025. He served as Chief of Surgery at Inland Hospital from 2008 to 2011. He lives in nearby Belgrade Maine with his wife and three children.
Dr Gillis owns and operates the largest anorectal defecatory laboratory in the state of Maine. Its a major referral center in the state of Maine for patients suffering from fecal incontinence and chronic constipation.
Dr. Gillis has hospital privileges at both Maine General in Waterville and St. Mary's in Lewiston, allowing him to admit and treat you if any complications arise. In 2023, Dr Gillis opened his Wellness Center on the 2nd floor of his Proctology practice. The connection with obesity and the increased rates of colon cancer were very concerning to him. After many years of research, he decided to offer GLP 1 weight loss injections. He never expected it to take off as quickly as it did and his clinic soon became the fastest growing Wellness Center in the area. With endorsements from local DJ celebrities as Lizzy Snyder from 92 Moose, Dr Gillis knew he would have to start to try a pilot program and try group classes due to the demand. It was a success as patient's that were strangers would leave with a sense of relief, knowing they were not alone. Accountability, and also they would probably see the other people back when they came in for a refill. This led to the need to extend his hours and staff. In April 2025 he celebrated his 2 year anniversary! Their focus is on patient care, saftey and personalized medicine. Dr Gillis understands the risks and seriousness of these medications.
